Weekly spelling words pre-written on chart paper
Materials
Lesson Procedure
To be used as part of daily spelling review.
As students spell words orally, have them stand beside their desks and raise their hands in the air, touch their waists, or touch their toes, depending on a letter’s shape (hands in the air for "tall" letters, hands on waist for "middle" letters, and hands on toes for "low" letters).
Example: For the word "pat," students say “p” and touch toes, say “a” and touch waist, say “t” and put hands in the air, (low letter, middle letter, tall letter). Especially effective when teaching word families.
