Lesson Procedure
-Prepare a sheet with 5 rows of three choices each. Each row will have three noises listed. For example, row one, clapping, Mr. Levi teaching, two students whispering. -Choose volunteers to make each of the noises but the teacher does his or her own noise. Ask the students to project. -Have all three noises performed at the same time for thirty seconds. -Ask students to circle which one they noticed primarily. Tell them there are no right answers and tell them to just hear what they hear. - Go through all five rows in one color crayon.
-Now teach about attention: what is it, and how it works. -This time, do the same activity again, but ask students to focus directly on their teacher. -Again circle what they had "attention" for. -Have a follow-up discussion on how difficult it is to pay attention. -Come up with strategies to help the class pay attention. -Make a poster and then put in on the wall, referencing this poster as the year goes on.
