Teacher Preparation 2 sources of music (CD player, radio, etc.) and 2 types of music (top 40, classical, jazz, etc.)
Picture book (In advance, divide the story into 3 logical parts and prepare review questions for each part.)
Paper and pencils
Materials
Lesson Procedure 1. Students listen as teacher reads a 3-part story aloud.

2. During part 1, play 2 sources of music while you read the story. Stop and ask students to answer the review questions individually on paper.

3. During part 2, play one source of music while you read the story. Stop and ask students to answer the review questions individually on paper.

4. During part 3, play no music while you read the story. Stop and ask students to answer the review questions individually on paper.

5. Brainstorm the strategies that helped students attend to the story. Reflect and discuss as a whole class.
