Teacher Preparation Create a messy model desk (include workbooks, unfinished papers, toys, etc.)
Materials
Lesson Procedure 1. Teacher presents problem scenario to class by presenting messy model desk.

2. Class brainstorms a list of why a messy desk is a problem.

3. Discuss the term "organization," especially as it relates to space and materials.

4. Together the class reorganizes the messy desk to be left as a model for them to refer to in the future (as needed). Have them generate ideas for how to keep their desks clean. Recognize the value of individual differences in organizing space and materials.

5. Students organize their own desks.

6. Create a workboard icon/drawing for students so they can organize their desks once a week.

7. Create a laminated desk template.
