-6 sheets of poster paper posted around the room--2 posters that say, "I feel proud when...," 2 that say, "I'm good at...," and 2 that say, "When I grow up..."
-1 color of marker per team, different than the other colors
Materials
Lesson Procedure
1. Discuss what uniqueness is, and areas we can be unique in.
2. Explain that the class is going to have a chance to celebrate each individual's uniqueness by rotating through 3 different posters that celebrate various areas we are unique in. Overview the 3 poster topics.
3. Break students into 6 teams (preferably in teams they are accustomed to working in). Designate a recorder on each team. Each team uses only one color of marker throughout the activity so the teacher can go back and monitor which ideas came from each group (and to have a visual to reinforce that each group is unique too!).
4. Each team goes to a poster. The Recorder lists as many of his/her team's responses as s/he can in the allotted time (5-7 min.).
5. Signal teams to stop at the end of the allotted time. Teams rotate to a new poster while keeping the same color pen.
6. Teams read what the team before them recorded and add only NEW responses.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 until each team has gone to each of the 3 posters.
8. As a class, debrief the things that were unique and the same about each other.
9. Students return to their desks and choose one of the topics to explore independently and write a reflection on. The reflection should include details that explain HOW they know this about themselves, what it FEELS like to know this, etc.
10. Later, or the next day, team members read their responses to each other.

Extension idea: If using this as a teambuilding exercise with teams that are working together on an ongoing basis, have teams choose one of the things that all the members had in common. Make team banners that represent what they had in common.
Management suggestions:
-The carousel works best with a class that is used to working in groups with the teacher who is facilitating the activity.
-If a character building or cooperative learning curriculum is already in place, specify that you will be looking for teams exhibiting the skill or trait that you are currently emphasizing.
