-Have the students draw a diagram of the seating arrangement in the lunch room. -Now have the students draw a picture of where they sit in the lunch room and the friends or others who sit with or around them. -Then have them write in their journals about how they feel eating in these groups. -Afterwards have a discussion on social groups at our diverse school.

Our school has a highly diverse ethnic population and tends to be clickish. The social groups are strongly developed and it is difficult to get "into the group". The lunchroom drawing gives the students some perspective of how they feel about the groups or about the way a "group" may treat an individual, and maybe not even realize it. Great discussions!
