Lesson Procedure 1. Introduce activity by telling students that they are going to do an activity on spatial ordering. Write the words “Spatial Ordering” on the board and ask students what they think this means.

2. Review the use of a ruler, especially noting ˝ and 1 inch marks.

3. Hand out white paper.

4. One by one, give the “Geometric Jumble” directions. Repeat each direction twice.

5. When finished, ask students to rate themselves in two ways (following directions and spacing) on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being lowest and 10 being highest.
Debrief (checking for understanding)
Extension/Going Further
Comments/Instructor's Note Next time I might review with students the geometric shapes they would be drawing, such as square, rectangle, triangle, etc., as well as words like “zig-zag”, height, length, etc. I might also spend a little more time practicing with the rulers beforehand. It took a few minutes to introduce the activity, and the debriefing added time to the activity. Also, repeating the directions several times took a bit more time. As it was, the lesson took bout 45 minutes. One direction told them to draw a zig-zag line three inches long and 1 inch below a triangle in the center of the paper. Students had difficulty because they confused the terms “long” and “high”. Then they were to draw another zig-zag line ˝ inch below the first one, and finally draw in four small squares between the two lines and touching both lines. Several students drew rectangles instead of squares, or they drew them on the sides of the lines instead of between the lines.
