Ten minutes
Teacher Preparation Modeling clay and board
Writing paper (wide ruled)
Lead pencils of various thickness
Rubber pencil grip
Three different colored pencils
Materials
Lesson Procedure 1) Ask students to make the letters of their first name in clay.
2) Ask students to trace their name with a fingertip.
3) Help them choose a lead pencil and observe their grip. Make adjustments as needed.
4) Ask them to write their name with a lead pencil and then to trace their name three times using three different colored pencils.
